Is RIM Getting Ready To Release BlackBerry Messenger App For Android?

Posted by Unknown Minggu, 15 April 2012 0 komentar
TechnoBuffalo came across some images today of a supposed BlackBerry Messenger app for Android. Rumors have been going around for quite awhile now on the fabled BBM app for Android but is this finally solid proof of its existence? To help sway skeptics, the tipsters even provided a little bit of a back story on how the app came into their possession.

The tipster also mentioned that the app could be unveiled at this year’s BlackBerry Devcon taking place in San Francisco October 18th – 20th.

A few things to keep in mind. First, the “dev phone” seems to be a Motorola device running and old version of Motoblur. I would likely assume an Android developer phone would be running stock Android so that should raise some eyebrows. The second thing worth noting, is that although I wouldn’t call this a shopped-job, it is pretty easy to throw together a makeshift Android app imitating a legit BBM app. But let’s pretend for a second that these images are, in fact, real and RIM is planning a BlackBerry Messenger app for Android.

With arguably RIM’s only saving grace making its way to Android, those that were still hanging onto BlackBerry may finally have all the reason they need for joining Google’s ranks. What do you guys think? Real or fake and why?

More BlackBerry Messenger for Android screenshots leaked

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar
At the beginning of this week we reported about screenshots showing BlackBerry Messenger on Android floating around the internet, well it appears that more photographs have surfaced again, and this time from a different source, which hints at more than one Android device having the BBM app. Now there’s no telling if these screens were faked, or it’s a fake app that’s been making its rounds, but what we do know is that they do look pretty convincing, and we wouldn’t be surprised if BBM did really arrive on Android. After all, it’s already been talked about much earlier this year.

This time around the BBM app has been shown off on a developer’s Android device and we get to see images of the icon again, and the BBM main screen where you get to select the people or groups you would like to message. What do you think of BBM for Android, and do you think that these screenshots are of the real deal?

Screenshots Show BlackBerry Messenger Running on Android

Posted by Unknown Sabtu, 14 April 2012 0 komentar
One of the biggest reasons for the popularity of BlackBerry devices among teens is RIM’s famous BlackBerry Messenger service. It won’t be long, however, before you can access the service on third-party devices, because BlackBerry Messenger is coming to Android.

These screenshots, which were obtained by TechRadar, show BlackBerry Messenger in action under Google’s Android operating system. They apparently came from a RIM employee, who has been working with the application and says that it is now in the final stages of testing.

The screenshots show the BBM application’s icon on an Android home screen, and a user’s contact profile taken from within the app. The icon doesn’t look all that pretty, however, it is reportedly still a beta at the moment, and will be a little more polished with the final version of the software.

Although there isn’t a lot to see in these screenshots, they are at least evidence that BlackBerry Messenger is making its way to Android — and possibly other third-party platforms. The service was previously rumored to be making its way to Apple’s iOS operating system as well.

Once the service is extended beyond the reach of the BlackBerry OS, it is expected to become a cross-platform messenger that will allow users to communicate with each irrespective of the platform they are running. For example, you should be able to message friends with an Android device from your BlackBerry handset.

It’s unclear whether RIM’s recent introductions to BBM, such as BBM Music and in-app chat integration, will also be ported to other platforms, but it’s likely these will stay exclusive to BlackBerry users.

As third-party messaging platforms continue to gain popularity, and rival services such as Apple’s iMessage and Samsung’s ChatON service are spawned, RIM must do all it can to maintain interest in BBM. However, extending the service to third-party platforms could be shooting itself in the foot.

The popularity of BBM has undoubtedly attracted users to BlackBerry devices in the past, and losing that exclusivity could mean that the company also loses a decent chunk of its customers. There’s likely to be a hefty number of users still clinging on to their BlackBerries simply for their beloved BBM, and its availability on another platform could allow them to finally make the switch.

Will you be looking forward to BBM on third-party platforms? And if you’re a BBM users, will its availability on other handsets encourage you to ditch your BlackBerry?

BlackBerry Messenger cancelled for iPhone, Android?

Posted by Unknown Jumat, 13 April 2012 0 komentar
RIM’s BlackBerry Messenger was key to the platform’s success in the past, and is still one of the best things about BlackBerries. That’s why news about it coming to iOS and Android were particularly exciting, giving ‘Berry loyalists a reason to stick with the declining platform. But it didn’t last long - RIM will drop plans for BBM apps on other platforms in order to be able to go for “direct competition,” if we are to believe the prediction of Jefferies’ analyst Peter Misek.

RIM, known for offering top notch security and corporate features, is also said to be working on an enterprise support solution for both Android and iOS, giving better control and monitoring over employees. Work on this won’t be cancelled, but will slow down, Misek adds.

The scoops come after the analyst sat for an interview with RIM’s new chief executive Thorsten Heins. After it, the analyst cut his target for RIM shares down to $15 for this financial year.

Blackberry Messenger for Android Images Leaked,

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 12 April 2012 0 komentar
We’ve already seen plenty of alleged screenshots of BBM running on Android and we’ve long expected the service to launch on both iOS and Android smartphones at some point. We believe RIM wants to make that step even more now that it’s open to new options to help turn the company around.

A source on Wednesday sent us several new images of Blackberry Messenger for Android version 0.8.87 running SitSLIP debugger 1.3.45 on a device with a 320 x 240-pixel resolution display, the same used in the HTC Wildfire. We’re told that RIM plans to include BBM for Android and iOS in its Mobile Fusion package also, which was introduced last year for enterprise users.

Are they legit? Our source says so, but late last year, Bla1ze from CrackBerry.com noticed that the font in earlier photographs is native to BlackBerry devices, which meant it seemed out of place on an Android smartphone. We asked our source that question this time around and, unfortunately, all we were told is that he or she is not a developer on the project and is simply working on fixing bugs.

The source also said that BBM for Android is on schedule to launch this year, although he or she wasn’t clear about the iOS launch date.

BlackBerry Messenger for iPhone and Android cancelled?

It’s long been rumoured that BlackBerry Messenger will eventually be released for iOS and Android, but one analyst now believes that’s very unlikely. Jefferies’ Peter Misek predicts that RIM will abandon its plans to develop BBM apps for competitors’ devices in favour of “direct competition” with them.

RIM had also been developing enterprise support technology for Android and iOS phones, which would allow companies to monitor and control employees’ phones from a central console, and Misek, based on checks with his sources and an interview with recently-appointed CEO Thorsten Heins, believes work on this will slow down as he seeks to change the company’s short term strategy. Misek believes RIM will underperform this financial year, and has slashed his previous target on shares from $17 to $15.

BlackBerry Messenger, or BBM, popularised the concept of instant messaging on smartphones, but has since faced stiff competition from cross platform alternatives such as WhatsApp, as well as Apple’s equivalent for iOS devices, iMessage. BBM was also the focus of media attention during last summer’s riots, and blamed for allowing the easy co-ordination of looting.

BlackBerry Messenger for Android Surfaces in More Screen Shots

Posted by Unknown Senin, 09 April 2012 0 komentar
A few days ago, we caught a glimpse at the first spy shots of the BlackBerry Messenger or BBM app for Android users running on a device. Some more screens of the app running what appears to be a different device have surfaced as well. The other screens show some of the same views that we saw previously, but it also includes a couple new views.
TechnoBuffalo was sent some screen shots from a source and the source added a bit of background to go with the screen shots that add a little credibility to things. The source claims to work for RIM. The phone the screenshots show looks very rough, and there is apparently a reason for it. The phone is a dev unit that RIM whipped up and the buttons on the front are just stuck on according to the source. The source also said that in the leaked screens from earlier in the week, the Nicole account seen is the default test account for BBM testing. The images could still be bogus keep the salt handy. Still, the new shots are clearly from a different device than the other and have a different background image. What do you think are these real or fake?

BlackBerry Messenger for Android makes first appearance

You might remember that there was talk awhile back about RIM’s well-known instant-messaging client, BBM, would be making its way to Android and eventually iOS. The first signs of such an app have just surfaced, showing the standard BlackBerry Messenger profile page, but not much else. The app icon doesn’t look great right now, but BBM for Android is still in testing (albeit late stages, according to the source). Native Android notifications are reportedly working well, but the full extent of BBM features aren’t quite known for sure.

Even though I’m a big BlackBerry fan, I don’t use BBM that much, and see most of the excitement surrounding it as a relic of a time when instant messaging aside from SMS was nonexistant. Read/recieved notifications are nice and all, and I could see how shared calendars, pictures, and lists within groups could be useful, but only if all of your friends own a BlackBerry, which obviously isn’t the case anymore. Google Talk meets my instant messaging needs much better exactly because it’s cross-platform, and BBM may find some renewed use if some of my friends without BlackBerry devices could get in touch with me through it. That said, if RIM wants to keep BBM as a sellable feature, they’re going to have to go cross-platform; they’ve already announced that their enterprise products are headed that way, and the PlayBook will echo the sentiment with its Android app player. Projects that leverage BlackBerry Messenger (like BBM Music) might not be particularly attractive when they’re limited to RIM smartphones, but if that market were suddenly opened up to a wider range of phones, devs may find a reason to make their apps BBM-connected with the available tools. While I doubt that the taste of BBM on Android will be enough to get owners to make their next phone a BlackBerry, RIM may still make a bit of coin if they charge for the core BBM app on other platforms.

We may end up seeing BlackBerry Messenger for Android before 2012 hits, which means a preview may be in order at BlackBerry DevCon in a few short weeks. Anyone excited to give it a shot, or are the multitude of existing cross-platform instant messaging clients enough to keep you connected?

Blackberry Messenger Appears on Android

Posted by Unknown Minggu, 08 April 2012 0 komentar

The infamouse BlackBerry Messenger app android had been seen on an Android phone. Now, according to various sources this has been rumored in the past and nothing has come of it. However, now there have been much clearer images taken showing BlackBerry Messenger running on an Android phone. The phone pictured here is however still being shielded from being revealed. It makes sense for BlackBerry to launch their messenger service on other platforms as their BlackBerry handsets are not doing so well these days in competition with Android and iOS. It is completely possible that this photo is a fake or an early prototype. We will have to see if this feature ever come to life, but if it did would you use it?
