Nigeria’s disintegration might become a reality – Ngige

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Chief Emeka Ngige has warned that Nigeria’s disintegration as a country was gradually becoming a reality emanating from the manner political affairs are being conducted in the country..

Speaking on the heels of the irregularities that marred the Nov 16 Anambra State governorship election which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared inconclusive, Ngige stated that the best option open for  INEC was outright cancellation of the entire election which he said was characterized by all forms of unacceptable election standards.

He warned that if INEC goes ahead to conduct the November 30 supplementary election in the state, the election umpire would be setting a precedent for speedy disintegration of Nigeria in 2015.

According to the Ngige, “Nigeria should be ready to accept the US prediction that the country would disintegrate in 2015 going by the seeming outcome of Anambra governorship election”.

The legal icon further declared: “INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega has admitted that he failed in Anambra. It would happen in 2015 presidential election when INEC is expected to declare Presidential results in favour of President Goodluck Jonathan and that would mark the end of Nigeria as a united country.”.

He dismissed the acceptance of the initial “faulty” results by a section of the traditional rulers in the State implying that some of them were “cash and carry” traditional rulers who have lost their conscience and values because of monetary gains.

He accused President Jonathan and Jega for preparing the ground to impose Obiano as governor on the people of the state, adding,.Jega is trying to emulate jos predecessor, Prof. Maurice Iwu, but it can not stand the test of time. as Obiano would be kicked out in three months as there are weighty evidences against him”.

Ngige who expressed immense sadness over INEC “dirty” role in Anambra election, contended that Jega has not only disappointed Anambra people, but the entire Nigerians who had thought he was a better referee than Iwu and warned that if the country burns, Jega and his INEC commissioners should be held responsible.

He added that the only option left for Jega and his INEC was to cancel the entire Anambra governorship election and fix a date for fresh one as major opposition parties had already expressed their willingness to boycott the Nov 30 supplementary episode.

No rigging in Anambra election – Obi

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar
No rigging in Anambra election – ObiAnambra State Governor, Peter Obi, on Monday declared that there was no rigging in the state governorship election held on November 16.

Speaking with State House correspondent at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, he maintained that the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate will win the election if it is conducted 10 separate times in the state.
He said: “Let me tell you, in the election in Anambra State, I can go to anywhere as a Christian and tell you there was no rigging in the election. Those who wanted to rig were prevented from rigging and they are crying.
“Go to the people of Anambra State, if you repeat that election 10 times, they will never win. What are they even talking about cancellation? The regulation, the rules or the law says that you have to win at least 25 per cent in two-third of the local governments. Only APGA can boast of that, we won in 18 local governments.
“The nearest, which is the Peoples Democratic Party, won in nine local governments, the All Progressive Congress won seven. And I can tell you that even those results they are shouting about their own are even more doubtful. Everything for APGA is real.
“I cannot be part of rigging, I don’t have money to pay for people. You know those who spent money and I am not one of them.”

A 19 year old Nigerian homeless man has been arrested in Italy for killing a 60 year old woman. Nwajiobi Donald (pictured above) strangled Caterina Susca with a bag over her head in her home in Bari, a southern Italian coastal city on Monday November 11th. Unknown to him, a neighbor took his pictures as he left Susca’s house after the murder. Donald confessed to the murder on November 14th after he was arrested by police who confronted him with numerous pieces of incriminating evidence collected in the hours immediately following the crime.

According to reports, the victim was found semi-naked with a plastic bag over her head and her skull crushed in. Donald said he killed the woman in self defense after she attacked him with a pair of scissors in her home. Donald, who is homeless, claimed he met the victim on the morning of the incident and asked her for food; the lady asked him to follow her home with a promise to give him something to eat only to attack him but investigators believe Donald was trying to steal from the woman and when caught in the act, attacked and suffocated her with a plastic bag after beating her up. Police say some money and a phone was stolen from the deceased.

President Goodluck Threatens To Sue SaharaReporters

Posted by Unknown Sabtu, 23 November 2013 0 komentar
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has threatened to sue New York based online news media, Sahara Reporters for what it described as an irresponsible, deplorable, highly unprofessional and unethical antics of outfit to assault the sensibilities of all decent Nigerians over the president state of health.

This was contained in a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati on Saturday.

The president while thanking Nigerians for their sympathies and solidarity as well as the mainstream media for its catual, fair-minded and objective reportage of the president’s indisposition said.

Below is the full statement: President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan thanks all patriotic and well-meaning Nigerians, including his supporters, friends and political associates who expressed and conveyed their sympathies and solidarity with him, through various means, following the announcement of his sudden indisposition while on a mission to attract greater investments to accelerate the growth of the Nigerian economy in keeping with his agenda for national transformation.

The Presidency also commends the generality of the mainstream media whose coverage of the President’s slight health challenge in London was mostly factual, objective, fair-minded and supportive.

We however condemn the utterly irresponsible, deplorable, highly unprofessional and unethical antics of certain fringe elements operating in the nebulous sphere of cyberspace who persist in seizing every opportunity to unjustifiably malign and impugn the character and integrity of the elected leader of their country.

It is very regrettable indeed that after, in compliance with President Jonathan’s standing instruction that Nigerians must never be kept in the dark about the state of his health, the public was duly informed that the President had received precautionary medical attention for an unexpected indisposition in London, Sahara Reporters and some other reckless, lawless, impudent and unpatriotic internet-based media chose to assault the sensibilities of all decent Nigerians again with their entirely fictional, malicious, hate-driven and scurrilous distortion of the facts of the President’s indisposition.

The suggestion by Sahara Reporters that President Jonathan took ill following a “heavy birthday party thrown to celebrate the President’s 56th birthday at his Presidential suite in the InterContinental Hotel in London” is fictional nonsense as there was definitely no party in London to celebrate President Jonathan’s birthday on Wednesday night.

The truth is that President Jonathan observed his 56th birthday anniversary quietly. For part of the day, he was airborne, in transit between Abuja and London. On arrival in London, he spent the rest of the day in the privacy of his hotel room. It has never been his custom to celebrate birthday anniversaries and no exception was made this year. No birthday party was therefore held for the President in London and there was certainly no drinking spree as Sahara Reporters claimed.

As unregulated as they are, Sahara Reporters and their ilk are not beyond the bounds of legal action for libel and willful defamation of the character and reputation of a President who has courageously stepped forward to serve his country.

They know very well that they can never substantiate or prove the constant false allegations and innuendoes they publish for the sole purpose of negatively portraying President Jonathan and his administration.

Their incessant claim of a bibulous President is pure fiction and blackmail, and the product of malicious imagination. We warn that our forbearance of their disrespectful caricaturing of the President is not limitless.

The Presidency will like to reiterate the trite point that no human being is beyond health challenges irrespective of their station in life. Sadly, this commonplace fact appears to be beyond the understanding of the publishers of Sahara Reporters who seem to have lost all sense of propriety, decency and human compassion.

The President is comforted by the prayers, support and overwhelming goodwill of the people of Nigeria, fully assured that the forces of good will continue to triumph over the forces of darkness in our land.

Anambra: APC rejects supplementary election

APC rejects supplementary election
APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) last night rejected the planned supplementary election in Anambra State next Saturday.
“We will not be a party to what is obviously a travesty of election by a self-discredited and conniving electoral umpire,” the party said in a statement issued in Lagos by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
It expressed “absolute shock and incredulity” that INEC could even talk of organising a supplementary election, despite the weight of credible evidence presented by the party as well as election monitors/observers that what transpired on November 16 was nothing but a “sham.”
The party said: ”This announcement has confirmed our worst fears that INEC is working in cahoots with the PDP and the presidency to ensure that no election ever counts in Nigeria.
“The INEC Chairman himself was the first to admit that a senior official of the commission compromised the election in one local government in Anambra.
“We on our own part were able to establish that materials meant for several LGs that were the strongholds of our candidate were diverted; that out of the about 1.7 million registered voters in Anambra, only a little over 400,000 were accredited to vote; and that the voters’ register was apparently tampered with to remove many names and disenfranchise thousands of voters.
‘’Yet, the same electoral body that admitted that the election was compromised has turned around to validate it by its decision to organise supplementary election instead of cancelling the parody of election and holding a fresh one. This is a sad day indeed.’’
The party said it is now obvious that Nigerians “cannot count on INEC to organise a free, fair and credible election anywhere in the country, hence Nigerians must now take their fate in their own hands to ensure that the principle of one man, one vote is sacrosanct.”

Naira Notes to be changed back to Paper Money before June 2014 — CBN

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar
image
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has said that Nigerians should expect a new generation of naira notes before the second quarter of 2014.
Deputy Governor, Operations, Mr Tunde Lemo, said the apex bank had earlier announced its decision to move the local currency from polymer back to paper, but disclosed that all the notes in circulation would not be withdrawn at the same time.
“Nigerians will be having new generation notes in paper in the next few months. We will wait until the notes wear tear. When they wear, and they travel back to Central Bank, of course they will be re-issued,” he stated.
According to him, the life cycle of a note in Nigeria is between six months and a year and if CBN took that decision six months ago, “I reckon that in the next three to six months, you will begin to see these denominations re-appear in paper.”
He said that, the Central Bank would have started producing the lower denomination notes in paper by the middle of last year, but due to logistics challenges, the plan was not accomplished.
“My plea is that Nigerians should be patient with us. It wasn’t the fault of the CBN; it is just because we have to go back to the drawing board. We will correct that in the course of the year. Polymer certainly will be phased out. In fact, no new note is being printed in polymer now,” said Lemo.
On the scarcity of the lower denomination notes, Lemo blamed inflation and commercial banks for what he called “low transactionary value” and “poor circulation,” respectively.
“For the lower denomination, well, I think the banks are really the ones that are really not allowing the lower denomination in circulation, largely, because of the cost and carrying value.
“Most people don’t require small denomination. But for buying things in the market, if you look at the veracity, you find out that it is the people that are losing interest because of its bulkiness and inflation,” he said.
Lemo said this should be done to ensure effective protection of the currency from abuse.

Shocking! Osun monarch strangled and burnt to death in his palace

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 21 November 2013 0 komentar
Some chiefs and residents of Ilashe Ijesa in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State on Thursday narrated how the monach of the town, Oba Adesina Anibijuwon, was killed by suspected members of Odua People’s Congress, who allegedly strangled him and left his corpse inside his residence which they set ablaze. Those who recovered his corpse from the building said the charred remains of Anibijuwon were taken to the mortuary at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital in Osogbo by Osun Ambulance Service at around 10.30pm on Wednesday. The ambulance that conveyed the remains of the monarch was said to have been escorted to the mortuary by armed policemen and some residents. The residents feared that those who killed him might want to seize his corpse. Some residents who also spoke with our correspondent said the officials of the state fire service, who came to put out the inferno, ran out of water. Some residents wondered why some chiefs in the town went into hiding when the hoodlums invaded the palace, urging the police to interrogate them to see if they were culpable. The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Sunday Akere; his counterpart at the Ministry of Home, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Sikiru Ayedun; and the Special Adviser on Security, Mr. Amos Adekunle, who visited the town expressed shock on seeing the extent of damage done to the residence of the traditional ruler. Our correspondent, who also visited the town, observed that the upper floor of the two-storey building where the monarch resided was completely razed. One of the chiefs, Adejumo Operinmade, told newsmen that he was informed that some persons, who claimed to be OPC members, came and demanded to see the monarch, but they were told that he was asleep. He stated that the strange visitors came back and they pointed a gun to the head of the monarch’s housemaid. They allegedly went to late Anibijuwon’s room and strangled the octogenarian monarch who had been blind for over nine years. Operinmade said, “We were told that some gunmen who claimed to be OPC members came and wanted to see Kabiyesi but they were told that he was sleeping. “They came back and held the housemaid living with Kabiyesi hostage and went to where Kabiyesi was sleeping. But immediately they came out, fire started and Kabiyesi was burnt inside the house. His corpse was taken to the mortuary at LAUTECH.” The Sasore of Ilase, Chief Oluwagbemiga Oke, said there was no land dispute or chieftaincy tussle in the town, wondering why the suspected arsonists killed the monarch. Chief Jumoke Ogunkeyede, whose brother gave the burnt residence to the monarch, also said he heard that the hoodlums, who perpetrated the act, had an accident at the outskirts of the town while escaping from the scene. He said, “We heard that they came in a red Mazda 323 and their car veered off into the bush while they were speeding away. We called journalists from Osun State Broadcasting Corporation at Ibokun, but when they got there to take photographs of the car, they saw that the it had been set ablaze. “They also removed the number plate of the car. I believe that they set the car ablaze to hide their identities. But the police could still find a way of unraveling those behind the killing and arson.” The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, told our correspondent on the telephone that the command had commenced investigation into the matter. She said, “We are pleading with members of the public to always furnish police with information any time they suspect strange persons and movement in their areas. This will assist the police to prevent crimes.”

Nigerian Lady Murdered in U.S.

Nigerian killed in U.S.
The late Obih

Nigerian has been found dead in an apartment in Colombus, Indiana, United States.
The police are looking for 36-year-old man, Ryan Allen Klug, who they say is the prime suspect in the murder of 26-year-old Adaobi M. Obih, who was found dead on Tuesday.
Police initially said Klug was a “person of interest” in the case.
Police were alerted to Obih’s death after she missed work on Monday and Tuesday without notifying anyone. Concerned co-workers contacted her apartment complex to ask about her. Police also contacted the property manager to request a welfare check, according to the arrest affidavit.
A maintenance worker went to check on the woman and said: “It’s not good, there is blood everywhere.”
A neighbour said he noticed that the door to Obih’s garage spot was open and had been open for at least 24 hours. Klug, who police described as Obih’s roommate, parked his vehicle there.
The maintenance worker told police there were no signs of forced entry at the apartment and that only two people would’ve had keys: Obih and Klug. The maintenance worker told police he found Obih with a “large amount of blood around her head” and said it appeared clear that she was dead.
Police talked to Obih’s boyfriend, who revealed that he’d texted and called her multiple times but never heard back. The last message he received from her was at 12:17 p.m. on Sunday, November 17. When she failed to respond, he went to her apartment, saw her car in the parking lot and knocked on the door. Obih didn’t answer.
A neighbor who lives in the apartment below Obih’s said it sounded like someone was moving furniture during Sunday afternoon. “It went on for more than three minutes,” the neighbor said, adding that it happened shortly before tornado warnings went off for Sunday’s storms.
Police said Klug had texted a pastor, asking him to call. When the pastor did so, Klug answered and said he couldn’t talk at the time.
Further investigation found that Obih had been stabbed multiple times and her throat cut. A blood trail went from the woman’s bedroom to Klug’s, and police said it appeared “the assailant attempted to clean up in the bathroom area belonging to Mr. Klug.” They also found a bloody towel in Klug’s sink. Police located a plastic bag containing a bloody sock and other clothes stained with blood, including blue jeans, boxers and a shirt. Police said the “amount of blood on these items was significant”.
Police found a trail of small blood drops leading from the apartment to the garage where Klug parked his vehicle. His 2008 silver Subaru Legacy was not parked in the garage.
Klug works for the Indiana Department of Transportation, and police contacted his supervisor, who told them Klug’s behavior had been “off” lately. He sent a text message Sunday, saying: “Sick tomorrow, then vacation next two weeks.” His supervisor said the message was out of character and also violated the department’s vacation time policy. Klug did not return texts or phone calls, his supervisor said. He didn’t show up at work Monday or Tuesday.
Klug’s stepmother and father said they hadn’t heard from him for several days.
His brother told police he’d spoken with Klug about two weeks ago. Klug wanted to get back with a girl he’d dated. The relationship ended about a year ago. His brother told Klug to call her; he said Klug discovered she was dating someone else and told him, ‘I’m losing control’.
Columbus police don’t think Klug is still in the area and said multiple law enforcement agencies were looking for him.

Anambra Poll: INEC to decide on date for supplementary polls today

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar
Amidst mutual accusations of fraud from the different political parties involved in the inconclusive Anambra State gubernatorial election of last weekend, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is today set to announce the date for the supplementary gubernatorial election.

Yesterday, INEC chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega and other senior officers of the commission debriefed officials that were sent to conduct the election. Following the debriefing the commission is expected to take a decision on the date for the supplementary election.
Ngige,Obiano,Ubah and Nwoye

Candidates and parties that were involved in the election were, yesterday, at daggers drawn on the legality of another election.

The All Progressives Congress, APC and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s candidate, Comrade Tony Nwoye were united yesterday in calling for a full cancellation of the election done so far. The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, whose candidate Willi Obiano is ahead in the declared results, has meanwhile insisted that the election so far conducted should not be cancelled.

APGA National Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh while asserting that the election of last weekend was devoid of irregularities told Vanguard that APGA was not afraid of partaking in a fresh election.

Meanwhile, the former governor of Abia State, Chief Orji Kalu has blamed the confusion emanating from the election in Anambra State to lack of preparation by the election management body.

The commission yesterday, held a crucial meeting during which it evaluated its performance in the botched polls, an INEC bulletin released yesterday disclosed.

Should the date of the supplementary election be announced today, it is expected that the make-up polls would hold in 210 Polling Units  where the    election was cancelled due to irregularities.

The  affected local government areas and the number of affected polling units are as follows: Idemili North, 160;  Ayamelum, two; Anambra East, three; Anambra West, six; Anaocha, one;  Awka North,  two and  Aguata, one.

Others include Awka South, one; Ekwusigo, three; Idemili South, one;  Ihiala,  South, two;   Onitsha North, one; Onitaha South, 17;  Orumba North, four and  Oyi, four.

Also, 113,113 registered voters are to take part in the supplementary election.

Meanwhile, the APC yesterday insisted on the total cancellation of the polls as it pushed further its protest against the election with the call for the prosecution of the Resident Electoral Commissioner for the State, Prof. Chukwuemeka Onukaogu.

APC in a letter written to INEC chairman, Prof. Jega demanded that INEC discontinue all arrangements for the conduct of the supplementary election in the state as it insisted that no candidate should be declared as winner until a fresh election is held.

The party’s leadership also threatened to go to court if INEC failed to heed its advice and proceed to conduct the supplementary election.

In the letter made available to journalists in Abuja yesterday, the party said: “Our demand is predicated on serious irregularities and non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended which characterised the conduct of the said election.”

The APC leaders cited their reasons for making their demands to include INEC’s alleged presentation of three different voters register to representatives of political parties on October 16, November 13 and November 16.

Akande also gave  the example of the PDP governorship candidate in the election, Mr. Tony Nwoye whose name was contained in the first two registers but was missing in the last one which was presented on election day, describing the poll as tainted.

Other irregularities complained against included lack of result sheets and non-transparent collation of results at collation centres.

They also said that they discovered poor distribution of election materials; inadequate recruitment and poor training of INEC’s ad-hoc staff as well as recruitment of electoral officials including staff and students of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University on the day of the election.

Tinted glass Users to face six months jail term

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

The Senate on Thursday passed a Bill for an Act to amend the Motor Vehicle Prohibition of Tinted Glass Act 2011.
The Bill aims at checking indiscriminate use of tinted glass vehicles by motorists.
The bill proposes N50, 000 fine or six month imprisonment for anyone driving a tinted glass vehicle without due approval from appropriate authority.
The Senate adopted the report of its Joint Committee on Police Affairs and Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters on the Bill.
The Chairman of the committee, Senator Paulinus Nwagu, said the Bill “seeks essentially to amend the extant law in order to check indiscriminate use of tinted glass vehicles which beat security checks and carry out nefarious activities.”
Nwagu noted that the bill was sponsored following the spate of reactions from Nigerians on the recent announcement by the Nigerian Police of its intention to arrest and prosecute those driving cars with tinted glass.
He said the development became necessary to bring to the fore the fact that the police was not trying to introduce a new law but was merely trying to enforce an already existing regulations 66 (2) of the National Traffic Regulations of 1997 and the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act.
Nwagu said, “The bill also seeks to address the persisting injustice meted out to Nigerians through embarrassment and harassment, which constitutes a serious affront to the fundamental rights of Nigerians against discrimination as enshrined under section 42 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).”
He noted that presentations by stakeholders during a public hearing in support of the bill, captured the need to address current upsurge in terrorism and other crimes like kidnapping and child trafficking.

Police Arrest Pastor’s Wife After Bathing her sister With Hot Water | Photo

Posted by Unknown Rabu, 20 November 2013 0 komentar

The police at Idimu, Lagos, western Nigeria have arrested the wife of a pastor, Mrs. Angela Uzoma, for pouring hot water on a teenager who is also her sister. She was arraigned before the Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court for injuring the teenager. The 28-year old housewife who is also the women’s leader in her husband’s ministry at Shasha allegedly poured hot water on Chidinma Chukwu, causing her serious injury. The incident happened at their residence at Ifelodun Street Orisunmbare, Shasha, Lagos State, western Nigeria. It was gathered that the pastor’s wife accused the 14-year old Chidinma of selling only few pawpaws on the fateful day. Angela, according to the police investigating officer (IPO), had warned Chidinma to ensure that she did not come back home without selling all the pawpaws packed in her tray for sale that day. Unfortunately, she did not sell everything and Angela became angry, accusing her of being too playful. Our source also gathered that she tried to hide the incident by refusing to take her to a hospital. Instead, she arranged with a nurse who was treating her at home. The matter came into the open when a samaritan heard of it and reported to the police at Idimu. Angela was promptly arrested. Narrating what happened, Angela revealed at the police station that she did not intentionally pour water on her, adding that she brought her from the village to train her and she was hawking pawpaw to assist the family to feed. “It is the devil’s work and I regret what happened.
